WILLIAMSPORT - Daiton Thompson topped 30 points for the fifth time in eight games, but the St. John Neumann boys varsity basketball team fell to South Williamsport, 72-68, Tuesday night.
The loss snapped Neumann's eight-game win streak.
Thompson scored 17 of his game-high 30 points in the first half, helping the Knights hold a 38-37 lead at the break. Neumann fell behind by eight in the third quarter before taking a four-point lead later in the quarter and still held a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter where the Mounties rallied late for their eighth straight victory. Zaidyn Diehl-Romano added 11 points, while Kane Meixel and Jahki Brister each scored nine.
The Knights get back into action in another Mid-Penn battle on Friday at Muncy, part of a varsity double header. Girls tip at 6, followed by the boys.
